Dima Hasao gears up for 80th Independence Day with enthusiasm
Haflong, August 13 — With the nation preparing to mark the 80th Independence Day on August 15, preparations across Dima Hasao district have picked up pace and the town of Haflong is awash with tricolours.
Streets, markets and public buildings are bedecked with Indian flags, buntings and patriotic decorations. Vendors at local markets reported brisk sales of flags, badges and other Independence Day paraphernalia as residents stocked up ahead of celebrations.
Speaking to reporters, local residents expressed excitement and pride at the upcoming observance. “We are very happy to celebrate Independence Day in a befitting manner,” said one shopper at the main market. Others said they were buying flags and badges for family members and community events.
The 80th Independence Day is expected to see participation from schools, local organizations and government offices, with special emphasis on showcasing regional cultural performances alongside the national flag-hoisting ceremonies.
