Dima Hasao celebrates 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour

 Haflong, August 15: Dima Hasao district celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour at the N.L. Daulagupu Sports Complex here on Saturday, with Chief Executive Member of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Debolal Gorlosa, hoisting the National Tricolour as the chief guest.

District Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge, IAS, and Senior Superintendent of Police Ripunjoy Kakati accompanied the CEM during the flag-hoisting ceremony. A band display by the 26 Assam Rifles added to the patriotic atmosphere, while senior officials of the autonomous council and district administration attended the programme.

The highlight of the celebrations was the impressive march past by personnel of the police, NCC cadets and students from various schools in Haflong. The disciplined display drew applause from the gathering and kept the audience spellbound.

Among those present were NCHAC Chairman Mohet Hojai, Executive Member Donphainon Thaosen, Vice Chairman of the District Planning Board Dhriti Thaosen, and Council Principal Secretaries Partha Sarathi Jahari, ACS, and Rajit Karigapsa.

Addressing the gathering, CEM Debolal Gorlosa highlighted the district's achievements in education, employment, sports and cultural development. He expressed gratitude to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for recognising the traditional Dimasa language for official and educational purposes in Dima Hasao, describing the decision as a historic milestone for the Dimasa community.

Gorlosa said Dima Hasao has continued to perform strongly in academics and has consistently remained among the top three districts in the state, including securing the top position in the HSLC examination. He attributed much of the progress to initiatives such as the Free Coaching and Super 30 programmes, which have helped students from economically weaker sections prepare for careers in medicine, civil services and other professional fields.

The CEM also pointed out that several youths from the district have qualified in APSC and allied services examinations, while local students and athletes have brought laurels to Dima Hasao by excelling at state and national-level competitions.

He appreciated the efforts of the autonomous council and credited MLA Rupali Langthasa for her guidance and support in advancing education, creating employment opportunities and preserving the district's cultural heritage.

Gorlosa said the achievements of Dima Hasao reflected the resilience, talent and determination of its people and called for continued collective efforts towards the district's development.

Unlike previous Independence Day celebrations, however, this year's programme did not feature cultural performances by troops representing the various communities residing in Dima Hasao
