 Guwahati, 3rd July, 2026:

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is transforming Majbat railway station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), at a project cost over 12Cr, reaffirming its commitment towards providing up-class passenger amenities and modern railway infrastructure across the region. Majbat is among the 92 stations identified for redevelopment under ABSS in the NFR zone, of which 60 stations are located across the Northeast, including 50 in Assam. The station comes under the Rangiya division of NFR and shares an important place for the Udalguri district of Assam. The station redevelopment project has been undertaken with a focus on improving passenger convenience, accessibility and the overall travel experience while preserving the station’s regional identity.

The redevelopment of Majbat station has brought about a comprehensive transformation of the station infrastructure with the successful completion of major civil, electrical and signalling works under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The station now presents a modern and aesthetically enhanced appearance with an upgraded facade, spacious entry porch, improved waiting hall, landscaped surroundings, widened circulating area, new toilet blocks, improved approach roads & drains systems, platform shelters and other passenger-centric infrastructure. To cater to the growing passenger demand, Platform No. 1 has been extended to accommodate full length trains, while tactile paving, Divyang-friendly drinking water booths and two lifts have also been provided to ensure safe and easy access for all passengers. The redevelopment has also strengthened passenger convenience through upgraded electrical infrastructure, including modern lighting, air-conditioned waiting facilities, mobile charging points, improved platform wiring and illuminated approach roads. In addition, the commissioning of the Coach Guidance Board (CGB) and Train Indication Board (TIB) has further enhanced passenger information and operational efficiency, making Majbat station better equipped to serve the travelling passenger.

The redevelopment of Majbat station reflects Northeast Frontier Railway’s continued commitment to enhancing passenger amenities through modern, safe and inclusive infrastructure. Once fully operational under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the upgraded station will provide improved comfort, seamless accessibility for Divyangjan passengers and better operational efficiency, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the region while strengthening rail connectivity across Assam and the Northeast.
