Kuki Inpi Assam, Zeme Council Assam Appeal for Peace and Communal Harmony
Haflong, July 25: In view of the prevailing unrest in neighbouring Manipur, the Kuki Inpi Assam and the Zeme Council Assam have jointly appealed to the people of Dima Hasao to maintain peace, communal harmony and brotherhood, urging all sections of society not to allow the situation to affect the district's long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence.
In a joint press release issued on Saturday, the apex representative bodies of the Kuki and Zeme communities in Assam called upon members of their respective communities, as well as the general public, to exercise restraint and refrain from any act, statement or activity that could incite violence or create communal tension.
The two organisations acknowledged that the developments in Manipur have caused deep concern and emotional distress to many people. However, they stressed that no grievance or provocation should be allowed to disturb the peace and mutual respect that the people of Dima Hasao have nurtured over generations.
Describing Dima Hasao as a model of unity in diversity, the organisations said the district has long been known for harmonious coexistence among its various communities, built on understanding, cooperation and goodwill.
The Kuki Inpi Assam and the Zeme Council Assam also appealed to individuals, youths, civil society organisations and community leaders to act responsibly by avoiding the spread of rumours, inflammatory messages, provocative statements and unverified information, particularly on social media. They warned that such actions could create misunderstanding, fuel mistrust and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the district.
The organisations further cautioned against any attempt by individuals or groups to exploit the situation in Manipur to create communal unrest or disturb public order in Dima Hasao. They reiterated that violence only leads to further suffering and division, while peace, dialogue and mutual respect remain the only path to lasting harmony and progress.
Appealing to all citizens to reject violence in every form, the two apex bodies urged the people of Dima Hasao to remain united in safeguarding the district's peace and stability. They expressed hope that wisdom would prevail over anger, dialogue over confrontation and unity over division, while calling upon everyone to preserve the legacy of communal harmony for future generations.
