Gauhati University Official Clarification on Guest House

Guwahati, 8 July: The Gauhati University Guest House serves a wide range of visitors associated with the University, including members of selection committees, external examiners, viva voce experts, visiting faculty, resource persons, alumni, parents, students, delegates, and guests attending academic, administrative and cultural programmes.

With the steady expansion of the University's academic and administrative activities, the existing dining hall has become inadequate to cater to the growing number of guests. In addition, the Guest House kitchen, store and staff accommodation have deteriorated over the years and require urgent upgradation. Accordingly, the University Construction Committee approved the construction of (i) a new dining hall, and (ii) a new kitchen, store and staff accommodation at the Gauhati University Guest House.

During the preparation of the tender documents, the expression "VIP Dining Hall" was inadvertently used in one of the documents. The term was merely an unofficial internal reference historically used for guests such as visiting professors, experts and dignitaries staying at the Guest House, and did not reflect the scope or purpose of the project.

The error was identified and corrected in the Letter of Intent issued on 24 June 2026, where the project has been correctly described as the construction of a Dining Hall at the Gauhati University Guest House. The University has also sought an explanation from the Superintending Engineer (i/c) of the Engineering Department regarding the inadvertent use of the incorrect terminology in the initial tender document.

The project is solely intended to augment the University's common guest house facilities in view of increasing academic activities and should not be construed otherwise.
