Haflong, July 6: The 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee was observed with due solemnity at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan in Haflong on Monday under the initiative of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The programme began with floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Mookerjee. Among those who paid homage were North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Debolal Gorlosa and Dima Hasao BJP district president Dhriti Thaosen.
Addressing the gathering, Gorlosa described Dr. Mookerjee as a distinguished educationist, visionary statesman and committed nationalist whose contributions towards safeguarding the country's unity, integrity and sovereignty continue to inspire generations. He said Dr. Mookerjee's ideals of sacrifice, dedication and public service would remain a guiding force for the nation's youth.
The commemorative meeting was attended by Executive Members and Members of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, along with a large number of BJP leaders and party workers. Participants paid tribute to the late leader and reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the ideals and values espoused by Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
