Desh Bhakti Diwas Observed in Haflong to Honour Freedom Fighter Tarun Ram Phukan
Haflong, July 28: Desh Bhakti Diwas was observed with due solemnity at the District Commissioner's Conference Hall in Haflong on Tuesday to commemorate the death anniversary of legendary freedom fighter Desh Bhakt Tarun Ram Phukan.
The programme was organised by the Dima Hasao District Administration in collaboration with the District Information and Public Relations Officer, joining the rest of Assam in paying tribute to one of the state's eminent freedom fighters.
The observance began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by floral tributes to the portrait of Tarun Ram Phukan. The tribute was led by Padma Shri awardee Ramkuiwangbe Jeme, District Commissioner of Dima Hasao Smt. Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge, IAS, along with other dignitaries.
The programme was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs), representatives of various community apex bodies, local leaders, members of women's organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), students, and officials from different government departments.
The speakers highlighted the invaluable contribution of Desh Bhakt Tarun Ram Phukan to India's freedom movement and urged the younger generation to uphold the ideals of patriotism, selfless service, and national unity exemplified by the great leader.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge to preserve and promote the legacy of the freedom fighters whose sacrifices laid the foundation for an independent India.
