NFR Speeds up Progress of Station Redevelopment Works in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri District Under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme


 

Guwahati, 11th June, 2026:         

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is making significant progress under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district, aimed at transforming railway stations into modern, passenger-friendly transport hubs. The district has five stations identified under the scheme—Jalpaiguri, New Jalpaiguri, Dhupguri, New Mal Jn., and Jalpaiguri Road. Of these, redevelopment works at Jalpaiguri Road station have been successfully completed recently, while modernization works at Jalpaiguri, New Jalpaiguri, Dhupguri and New Mal Junction stations are progressing rapidly. The initiative reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to providing enhanced passenger amenities, improved accessibility and world-class station infrastructure.


Jalpaiguri Road Railway Station has also been transformed into a modern and eco-friendly station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The redevelopment includes a redesigned circulating area with dedicated traffic lanes, structured parking facilities and pedestrian pathways to ensure smooth passenger movement. A grand entrance porch, enhanced station façade, upgraded booking counters, modern modular toilets, refreshment room-cum-cafeteria, spacious waiting hall with baby care room, improved platform surfaces, landscaped green zones and high-mast illumination systems have significantly enhanced passenger convenience. Special emphasis has been given to accessibility through Divyangjan-friendly facilities, dedicated parking areas and improved signage systems. Passenger information systems have also been upgraded with modern display boards and public announcement facilities.

 

Apart from Jalapiguri Road works of Jalpaiguri and Dhupguri stations are expected to be completed by December, 2026 while works of New Jalpaiguri and New Mal Jn., stations are expected to be completed by early of 2027. Northeast Frontier Railway remains committed to delivering modern, sustainable and passenger-centric railway infrastructure that supports regional development and enhances the overall travel experience.
