National Immunization Day Campaign Launched in Dima Hasao; 86% of Target Achieved on Day One

Haflong, June 28: The three-day Pulse Polio National Immunization Day (NID) campaign was launched across Dima Hasao district on Sunday, in line with the nationwide drive to protect every child below five years of age against polio.

The campaign was formally inaugurated by Executive Member in charge of Health and Family Welfare, Probita Johari, at Mahur Public Health Centre in the presence of Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Sarsing Rongpi, senior medical officers, and health workers.

In-charge Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr. Merina Changsan, informed that children were administered the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) at designated immunization booths across the district. By the end of the first day, the district had achieved 86 percent coverage of its target.

She stated that on June 29 and 30, health teams will conduct door-to-door visits to vaccinate children who could not attend the booth sessions. Expressing confidence in the campaign, Dr. Changsan said the district is hopeful of achieving 100 percent coverage by the end of the three-day drive.

A total of 28,602 children below the age of five across 827 villages have been identified for immunization. To implement the campaign, the Health Department has established 558 polio booths and deployed 2,192 personnel, including health workers, ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, and supervisors.

The District Health Department has appealed to all parents and guardians to ensure that every child below the age of five receives the life-saving polio vaccine and to extend their full cooperation in making the campaign a complete success.
