Haflong, June 21: Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of National Highway-27 on Sunday following a major landslide near Jainga that severely disrupted traffic movement.
The landslide, triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in the region, blocked a significant portion of the highway, bringing vehicular movement to a complete halt. As a result, long queues of passenger vehicles, buses, and goods-laden trucks were seen lined up on either side of the affected stretch.
Officials said road-clearing operations were launched immediately to remove debris and restore connectivity. However, persistent rainfall and unstable hillside conditions posed challenges to the restoration efforts.
The disruption caused considerable inconvenience to commuters and transporters, with many travelers forced to wait for hours as authorities worked to reopen the road.
According to stranded travellers though JCB are pressed for immediate restoration but it would take 3 to 4 hours for full restoration.
