Peaceful and High Turnout Marks Assam Assembly Elections 2026

 Guwahati, 09^th April, 2026:The General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2026 was conducted successfully across the State today, witnessing a peaceful and well-organized polling process.

According to reports received from all districts, an overall voter turnout of 84.42% was recorded till 5:00 PM. The election saw enthusiastic participation from citizens across Assam, as large numbers turned out to exercise their democratic right. Despite adverse weather conditions in certain areas, voter enthusiasm remained strong and undeterred. Long queues were observed at several polling stations during the final hours, and the total voter turnout will be finalized after polling concludes at all locations.

Extensive arrangements had been put in place by the Election Commission to ensure that the polling process remained free, fair, and inclusive. Adequate security measures were deployed to maintain law and order throughout the State. In addition, special facilitation measures were provided for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other voters to ensure a smooth and accessible voting experience.

Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel expressed his sincere appreciation to the people of Assam for their cooperation and active participation, which played a crucial role in the successful conduct of the election. He noted that the continued presence of voters at designated polling stations even after 5:00 PM reflected a high level of public awareness and commitment towards the democratic process.

He also acknowledged the tireless efforts of polling personnel, security forces, and all stakeholders who contributed significantly to ensuring the smooth, orderly, and peaceful completion of the polling process.
