Inter-College Sports Tournament Begins at Gauhati University

 Guwahati, 24 April : An inter-college tournament featuring volleyball, basketball, and badminton commenced at Gauhati University on 24 April 2026. The two-day event has been organised by the Sports Board in collaboration with the Postgraduate Students’ Union (PGSU), with the aim of promoting physical fitness, mental resilience, unity, and team spirit among students.

Addressing the gathering, Registrar Prof. Utpal Sarma remarked, “Sports are not limited to competition alone; they are an essential part of life’s learning. Through team sports, students develop discipline, cooperation, and leadership qualities. I hope this initiative will contribute to the overall well-being of the students.”

The event was inaugurated with the hoisting of the University flag by the Registrar, who also extended his best wishes to all participants.

The competitions are being held in both men’s and women’s categories, with participation from more than fifty colleges across Assam. Director of Students’ Welfare, Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, hoisted the Sports Board flag and stated, “Inter-college sports competitions build a healthy competitive spirit among students and strengthen relationships between educational institutions. They also provide a valuable platform for emerging talent and contribute to nurturing skilled athletes for the future of sports in the state.”

During the ceremony, the PGSU flag was hoisted by its President, Gunjan Deka. The programme was attended by faculty members, office bearers of the Postgraduate Students’ Union, invited guests, and students.
