176th Birth Anniversary of Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo Observed at Maibang


Haflong, March 16: The 176th birth anniversary of Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo, a revered national freedom fighter, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Maibang on Monday.

On the occasion, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa, took part in the commemorative programme and paid tribute to the legendary Dimasa leader for his courage and sacrifice in the struggle against British rule.

As part of the celebration, a statue of Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo was also unveiled in his honour.

The programme was organised by the Dimasa Students’ Union and the Maibang Area Phonglo Hoshom Committee. Leaders, community representatives and members of various organisations gathered to remember the life and legacy of the freedom fighter.

CEM Debolal Gorlosa was accompanied by Chairman of DHAC Mohet Hojai, Executive Members Donpainon Thaosen and Probita Johori, and MACs including Dhriti Thaosen, Monjoy Langthasa, Ratan Jarambusa, Rupali Langthasa, Pronath Rajiyung and Ajoy Chakraborty.

Also present were Ramesh Thaosen, President of Dimasa Lairidim Mel, Sidut Nading, President of the Dimasa Students’ Union, Arup Kr Gorlosa, President of JNH, and Arujit Kemprai, President of the All Dimasa Students’ Union District Committee. Mouzadars and Gaon Burhas of Maibang East, West and Kalachand areas, along with office bearers of Phonglo Hoshom, also attended the programme.

Among the notable attendees was Arun Phonglo, the grandson of Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo, who joined the gathering in honouring the legacy of the revered leader.

Speakers at the programme highlighted the historic role played by Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo in resisting British rule and urged the younger generation to learn from his bravery and dedication to the cause of freedom.
