120 MW Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project Inaugurated, Boost for Power and Development in Dima Hasao
Haflong, March 14: In a significant development for the hill district of Dima Hasao, the 120 MW Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the august presence of Assam Governor Laxman Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday.
The inauguration marks a historic milestone for the district, as the project is expected to strengthen power generation capacity and contribute to the overall development of the region.
Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa, attended the inauguration ceremony held at Longku at the Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project site. Speaking on the occasion, it was stated that the project will not only enhance electricity generation but also open up new opportunities for economic growth and infrastructure development in Dima Hasao.
The project is considered a landmark initiative for the hill district, bringing hope for improved power supply and long-term sustainable development.
It may be mentioned that the foundation stone of the project was laid on October 7, 2021 by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The initiative was seen as a visionary step that paved the way for the successful completion of the Lower Kopili Hydro Electric Project.
The commissioning of the project is being viewed as a proud and transformative moment for the people of Dima Hasao as the district moves forward on the path of progress and sustainable growth.
