Pandu College Observes National Science Day with Emphasis on Women in Science and Innovation



Guwahati, February 28, 2026: National Science Day was celebrated with academic zeal and vibrant participation at Pandu College on February 28, 2026, under the aegis of the Science Forum, Pandu College. The day-long programme was organised around the theme "Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat," reflecting the national commitment to inclusive scientific advancement.



Registration for the event commenced at 9:00 AM, followed by the inaugural session at 10:00 AM, which began with the rendition of the College Anthem. The programme paid a musical flute tribute to Nobel Laureate C. V. Raman and noted Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. Dr. Sanchay Jyoti Bora, Principal of Pandu College delivered the inaugural address, underscoring the importance of scientific temper, research orientation, and the critical role of women in shaping a developed India. Pranta Pratim Sinha, Head of Corporate Planning & Strategy, was the chief guest of the session and he focused on contemporary advancements in Artificial Intelligence and bio-fuel technologies, and their potential to accelerate national growth in his speech. Dr. Tapan Sarma, Retired Associate Professor of Physics, North Gauhati College, addressed the gathering on the scientific prospects of prolonging human life.


 He stressed that questioning remains fundamental to the teaching-learning process and encouraged students to nurture inquisitiveness as the foundation of scientific inquiry. The session was moderated by Dr. Rimki Bhattacharjya, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Dr. Mallika Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, Pandu College, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Chikhla Jun Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, Pandu College.


The inaugural session was followed by an Inter-College Debate Competition sponsored by Canara Bank, Maligaon Branch. Dr. Tapan Sarma was speaker of the debate competition while the panel of judges comprised Dr. Himangshu Prabal Goswami, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University; Dr. Hirak Jyoti Sarma, Assistant Registrar, Gauhati University; and Mr. Bishaldeep Kakati, Advocate, Gauhati High Court. Students from various educational institutions across Guwahati participated enthusiastically. The debate concluded with 34 votes in favour of the motion and 27 against, indicating a closely contested intellectual exchange.


The celebration also included a "Science Model Exhibition and an Exhibition-cum-Sale featuring handicrafts, art, handloom, and food items", with participation from 67 students. The exhibitions highlighted scientific creativity alongside entrepreneurial and cultural initiatives. The successful observance of National Science Day at Pandu College reaffirmed the institution's commitment to promoting scientific awareness, innovation, and inclusive progress in alignment with the national vision of Viksit Bharat.
