Guwahati, February 2, 2026: Gauhati University, through its Innovation, Incubation and Startup Cell, launched a special two-day programme titled “GUenARK 2026” on Monday, aimed at strengthening the local enterprise sector and enabling its systematic integration into the startup ecosystem.
Delivering the inaugural address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Nani Gopal Mahanta, stressed the importance of capacity building in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. He stated that if Assam’s local talent, innovative thinking, and entrepreneurial energy are provided with proper direction and an appropriate platform, the state can emerge as a strong hub of enterprise and innovation.
He further noted that initiatives like GUenARK 2026 would not only instil confidence among the entrepreneurial youth of Assam but also pave the way for local enterprises to establish themselves on the global stage.
Gracing the programme as the Chief Guest, Dr. Jeevan Basavaraj, IAS, Secretary, Department of Innovation, Incubation and Startups (DIIS), Government of Assam, highlighted key aspects of the startup ecosystem and remarked that innovation is the guiding force of the future. He stated that with the right policies, modern technology, and institutional support, young entrepreneurs of Assam can transform their ideas and dreams into reality.
As part of the event, two panel discussions and several competitive and interactive activities were organised, including an Ideathon, Hackathon, and Startup Showcase.
The programme saw participation from more than 1,500 attendees, including students, innovators, startup founders, and guests from across Assam and the North-Eastern region.
The event was attended by Mr. Subir Sinha (Vice President – Rural Incubation) as a distinguished guest, along with Professor Ratul Mahanta (Chairman, IIS), Professor Prasanta Sharma (Dean, Faculty of Commerce and Management), and Professor Kumananda Tayung (Dean, Faculty of Science), as well as other eminent personalities, research scholars, and students.
Through a series of engaging sessions, competitions, and discussions, GUenARK 2026 successfully created a dynamic platform for innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurial growth, reaffirming Gauhati University’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant startup ecosystem in the region.
