Empowering Hill Farmers: Two-Day Kisan Mela-2026 Kicks Off in Haflong with Scientific Farming Focus



Haflong, February 10 The Department of Agriculture, partnering with allied sectors under CSS-ATMA, launched the Two-Day Kisan Mela-2026 today at Krishi Bhawan in Dima Hasao district. Running through February 11, the event equips local farmers with modern techniques to drive regional growth.

Sameer Roy, Chairman of the Department of Agriculture, served as Chief Guest at the inaugural ceremony. Joining him were Laisringdi Naiding, ACS Deputy Secretary of NCHAC; Dhritiraj Alamyan, ACS Assistant Commissioner; Dr. Bhairab Kakati, I/c Additional Director (Hills) of the AH & Veterinary Department; the Fishery Development Officer; a KVK scientist; and the Assistant General Manager of NABARD. Farmers and officials also attended.

In his address, Chairman Roy stressed blending technology with traditional practices to increase productivity. He highlighted the Mela's stalls and interactive sessions, offering farmers direct access to expert advice and resources.

Dr. Kakati urged a shift to scientific animal rearing for local poultry and piggery, with departmental training support to enhance output. He also noted ongoing NABARD-funded RIDF projects to rebuild veterinary dispensaries, improving animal health services across Dima Hasao.

The event featured interactive sessions where farmers discussed challenges in plantation, cattle rearing, livestock management, and agricultural schemes with departmental experts. This initiative underscores the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council’s (DHAC) dedication to rural development, better livelihoods, and food security.
