Guwahati January 24: Guwahati is set to witness a significant upgrade in its pilgrimage infrastructure as the Union Government has approved a major ropeway project connecting Kamakhya Railway Station to the revered Maa Kamakhya Temple. The project, worth ₹213.24 crore, aims to improve accessibility, reduce travel time, and enhance the overall experience of devotees visiting one of the most important Shakti Peethas in the country.

The announcement was made by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari through his official social media platforms, highlighting the Centre’s continued focus on improving connectivity to major religious destinations across India. Once completed, the ropeway will drastically cut down the travel time between Kamakhya Railway Station and the temple. What currently takes around 20 minutes by road will be reduced to just 6 minutes, offering great relief to pilgrims, especially during peak festive seasons.

According to official details, the ropeway will have the capacity to carry up to 16,500 passengers daily, ensuring smooth and efficient movement of devotees. This modern transport system is expected to reduce traffic congestion on the narrow hill roads leading to the temple while also promoting eco-friendly travel.

The project is being seen as a landmark development for Assam’s religious tourism sector. Besides improving convenience for pilgrims, it is also expected to boost local employment, tourism-related activities, and the region’s overall economy. Enhanced connectivity will make the sacred site more accessible to elderly devotees and those with mobility challenges.

With the approval of this ambitious ropeway project, Assam takes a major step forward in blending tradition with modern infrastructure, reinforcing Maa Kamakhya Temple’s position as a key spiritual destination on the national map.
