Prime Minister Modi Pays Tribute to Martyrs of Assam Movement at Swahid Smarak


 
Guwahati, 21 December: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid floral tributes to the martyrs of the historic Assam Agitation at Swahid Smarak in Guwahati, remembering their supreme sacrifice for the protection of Assam’s identity, culture, and rights.

During the solemn ceremony, the Prime Minister was presented with a memorial insignia by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The occasion was marked by the presence of Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Governor of Assam Lakhman Acharya, and Assam Minister Atul Bora, reflecting the collective respect of the state leadership for the martyrs.

The Swahid Smarak, a symbol of the people’s movement that shaped Assam’s modern history, witnessed a moment of deep reverence as the Prime Minister offered floral tributes and observed silence in honour of those who laid down their lives during the Assam Agitation.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders highlighted the enduring legacy of the agitation and reiterated the commitment to uphold the aspirations of the people of Assam. They emphasized that the sacrifices of the martyrs continue to inspire efforts towards peace, unity, and development in the state.

The visit underscored the central government’s recognition of Assam’s historical struggles and its resolve to work closely with the state for inclusive growth while preserving its cultural and social heritage.
