Haflong November 10: Grief turned into anguish for families of the victims who lost their lives in the tragic incident at Boulsol Waterfalls on Saturday, as they were made to wait hours to receive the bodies of their loved ones.
The bodies of the deceased students, recovered earlier in the afternoon, were brought to Haflong Civil Hospital around 2:45 p.m. However, according to reports, the post-mortem examinations were delayed due to official procedures, leaving the grieving parents in distress.
Many of the victims’ parents had flown in from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, arriving at Silchar before making their way to Haflong to collect the lifeless bodies of their sons and daughters. Witnesses described their pain as unbearable, with several parents reportedly breaking down at the hospital premises as the wait continued.
A team of officials from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar, including the Registrar, was present at the hospital to assist and support the bereaved families. However, the officials refrained from making comments to the media, citing unspecified reasons.
Locals have expressed dismay at the prolonged procedural delays, urging authorities to handle such sensitive matters with greater compassion and urgency.
As the families continue to cope with their unimaginable loss, the incident stands as a stark reminder of the need for swifter coordination in the aftermath of tragic events.
Following long persuasions, the aggrieved families ultimately received the bodies of their wards at 11.50 PM and left for Silchar and reached Silchar at about 4.30 am Monday.
