Guwahati, 7 November: On 7th November, 2025 Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the year-long commemoration of the National Song “Vande Mataram”, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi. On the occasion, Hon’ble Prime Minister also released a Commemorative Stamp and Coin, marking the beginning of a yearlong nationwide celebration from 7th November 2025 to 7th November 2026. The celebration honours 150 years of the patriotic song that inspired India’s freedom movement and continues to evoke pride, unity and devotion to the nation.
According to an official statement given by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, as part of the nationwide observance, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) celebrated the 150 years of “Vande Mataram” with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour across its jurisdiction. The main celebration was organised at the NFRSA Complex, Maligaon, where Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager, NFR, led the programme in the presence of a large gathering comprising senior officials, railway staff and their family members. The celebration reflected a deep sense of national unity and reverence, as railway personnel, school children and members of various organisations came together to sing the full version of “Vande Mataram” in unison. The collective voices filled the air with emotion, transforming the venue into a resounding tribute to the spirit of India’s freedom, unity and cultural heritage.
The NFR (Construction) Organisation also observed the day at the GM (Construction) office, Maligaon. Across all five divisions of NFR Tinsukia, Lumding, Rangiya, Alipurduar and Katihar as well as at major railway stations, schools and offices, the day was celebrated with great zeal. Patriotic songs, cultural performances and community participation brought together railway employees, students and the public in a shared spirit of nationalism and harmony.
A Mass Singing of the full version of “Vande Mataram” was held at around 9:50 AM across the country, including at various NFR locations, where railway staff, school children and local residents joined their voices in unison. The event generated a wave of positive energy, unity and pride, reminding every participant of the timeless message of devotion to the Motherland that “Vande Mataram” embodies.
Composed by Bankimchandra Chatterji on Akshaya Navami, 7th November 1875 and first published in Bangadarshan as part of his celebrated novel Anandamath, “Vande Mataram” continues to symbolize India’s indomitable spirit, unity and self-respect. The 150th anniversary marks a proud milestone, reaffirming the nation’s collective resolve to uphold the ideals of harmony, patriotism and national pride.
