Minister Kaushik Rai Highlights Urgency for Completion of NH-27 Works: Road Projects to be Finished by January 2026

 
Haflong,  Nov, 22: Kaushik Rai, Assam Minister of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Mines & Minerals, conducted an inspection of the East-West Corridor (NH-27) stretch from Harangajao to Jatinga to assess progress on the ongoing development works. During the visit, he engaged with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials regarding the execution and upkeep of the highway.

Subsequently, a review meeting was held at the Circuit House in Haflong, the headquarters of Dima Hasao district, focusing on road connectivity, infrastructure enhancement, and public convenience. The Minister emphasized the critical importance of completing the projects on schedule to ensure efficient transport.

It was resolved that the 49 km stretch from Nrimbanglo (Maibang Sub-division, Dima Hasao) to Harangajao will be accessible to the public by January 2026. Out of this, approximately 7–8 km will feature a mix of four-lane and two-lane sections. Presently, 85.3% of the work has been accomplished.

The Minister was joined by dignitaries including Kanad Purkayastha, M.P. (Rajya Sabha), Mihir Kanti Shome, MLA (Udarbond LAC, Cachar), Niharanjan Das, MLA (Dholai LAC, Cachar), along with Donpainon Thaosen, Executive Member, NCHAC, Partha Sarathi Jahari, ACS and Principal Secretary of NCHAC Haflong, Munindra Nath Ngatey, ACS and District Commissioner, Dima Hasao, Ripunjoy Kakati, APS, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, and other senior officials.

Minister Rai also addressed concerns raised by civil society representatives regarding compensation matters and instructed the NHAI officials to accelerate their processes as the project completion deadline nears.
This was followed by a pressmeet with accompanying 25+ journalists from Silchar and journalists from Dima Hasao wherein many journalists raised several questions regarding the completion of the NH 27. The minister reiterated his assurance to open the NH 27 by January 26. Mention may be made here that the target of completion of this dream project of former Prime Minister Late Atal Behari Vajpayee by July 27 next.
