Tiwa Language Introduced in Primary Schools
Morigaon, October 23: In a landmark step towards preserving and promoting indigenous culture, the Tiwa language has been introduced as a medium of instruction in primary schools across Tiwa-dominated areas of Assam. The initiative marks a historic milestone for the Tiwa community.
The official launch ceremony was held at Daboraghat Primary School in Morigaon district, where State Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu formally inaugurated the Tiwa language education programme.
In the first phase, the Tiwa language will be introduced in 62 primary schools. Teachers proficient in the language have already been appointed in Tiwa-dominated schools of central Assam. During the ceremony, Dr. Pegu also unveiled the first set of Tiwa language textbooks.
Addressing the gathering, the minister announced that the State government plans to appoint additional Tiwa language teachers to expand the programme to all relevant schools in the near future. He lauded the efforts of Tiwa organisations that had long advocated for the inclusion of the language in the primary education curriculum.
The event was also attended by Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, Jagirod MLA, and several other dignitaries.
