Guwahati, 16th October: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has achieved remarkable progress under the Ministry of Railways’ ‘One Station One Product’ (OSOP) initiative, aimed at empowering local artisans and entrepreneurs by providing them with a platform to exhibit and sell their traditional and indigenous products at railway stations.
As of October 2025, a total of 112 stations across NFR have operational OSOP outlets, encompassing 135 functional units. According to Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of NFR, the initiative has been successfully implemented across divisions, with Alipurduar Division having 12 operational stations, Katihar Division 23, Lumding Division 32, Rangiya Division 20, and Tinsukia Division 25.
In terms of geographical coverage, 71 stations in Assam, 26 in West Bengal, 8 in Bihar, 4 in Tripura, 2 in Arunachal Pradesh, and 1 in Nagaland now host OSOP outlets. The initiative has provided a substantial boost to regional crafts, traditional products, and self-employment opportunities throughout the Northeast, aligning with the national vision of ‘Vocal for Local’.
Alongside OSOP, NFR is also implementing the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK) scheme to make quality generic medicines available at affordable prices for passengers and nearby residents. Presently, five PMBJK units are operational at Katihar, Badarpur, Agartala, New Tinsukia, and New Coochbehar stations.
These initiatives reflect NFR’s steadfast commitment to social welfare, economic empowerment, and passenger convenience, while simultaneously preserving and promoting the traditional crafts and livelihoods of local communities across the Northeast region.
