NFR Records 9.63% Growth in Freight Unloading During September 2025
Guwahati, 05th October, 2025: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has continued its upward trend in freight unloading, registering a significant 9.63% growth in September 2025. A total of 1,059 freight-carrying rakes were unloaded during the month, compared to 966 rakes handled in the same period last year.
During the month, NFR efficiently facilitated the transportation of essential commodities such as FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizers, cement, coal, vegetables, automobiles, tankers, and other goods, which were subsequently unloaded at various goods sheds under its jurisdiction.
A substantial portion of this freight traffic supported the northeastern states. Out of the total 1,059 rakes unloaded in September 2025, 595 were handled in Assam, including 291 rakes carrying essential commodities. Additionally, 83 rakes were unloaded in Tripura, 21 in Nagaland, 20 in Manipur, 13 in Meghalaya, and 11 in Arunachal Pradesh. Mizoram recorded 9 rakes, while 179 and 133 rakes were unloaded in West Bengal and Bihar, respectively, within NFR’s jurisdiction, as mentioned in an official statement given by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer
Regular movement of essential and non-essential commodities under NFR has ensured the steady supply of daily necessities while sustaining and enhancing the region’s economic growth. Close monitoring at every operational level has also helped reduce turnaround time and improve overall unloading efficiency.
