NFR Introduces ATVMs and Water Vending Machines at Guwahati Railway Station
Guwahati, 03rd October, 2025: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has taken yet another stride in enhancing passenger amenities by commissioning Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at Guwahati Railway Station. The new facility was formally inaugurated on 03rd October, 2025 by Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway. As part of its modernization drive, more than 100 ATVMs are being installed across important stations of NFR to provide passengers with a faster and more convenient ticketing system.
According to an official statement given by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, the ATVM is designed to offer passengers a quick, simple and modern way of purchasing unreserved train tickets. This facility removes the need to wait in long queues at ticket counters, as passengers can now obtain tickets directly by using digital payment options at the machine. Apart from unreserved tickets, the multipurpose system can also issue platform tickets and season tickets, benefitting both regular commuters and occasional travellers. The ATVM further promotes cashless transactions in alignment with the Digital India initiative, while ensuring smooth crowd management at stations.
Alongside the ATVM facility, NFR has also installed 36 Water Vending Machines (WVMs) at 13 stations, ensuring clean, safe and affordable drinking water is available to passengers at all hours. These machines encourage travellers to refill their own bottles, thereby promoting eco-friendly practices, reducing plastic waste and ensuring hygiene. The WVMs dispense half a litre of water at Rs. 3 for refills and Rs. 5 if using a container, making it highly economical. To assure quality, a water testing facility has also been provided, allowing passengers to check purity on the spot. The initiative embodies the message of “Har Ghoont Mein Swachhta”, ensuring healthy travel with safe water access.
Speaking at the launch, Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava highlighted that the introduction of ATVMs and WVMs at Guwahati station marks a significant step in improving travel convenience for passengers. He further emphasized that NFR remains committed to adding more such passenger-friendly facilities across its network in the near future.
In addition to these facilities, Guwahati station is also developing sleeping pods for travellers, expected to be completed by December this year, further enhancing comfort for long-distance passengers.
