The Divisional Railway Managers of Rangiya and Lumding, Shri Anant Sadashiva and Shri Samir Lohani respectively, along with senior officials from the NFR Headquarters, were also present. The meeting was coordinated by Shri Anurag Agarwal, Dy. General Manager (G)/NFR. The objective was to brief the MPs on ongoing developmental works and to seek constructive feedback for enhancing railway services across the region.
Welcoming all the dignitaries, the General Manager highlighted NFR’s achievements and ongoing infrastructure initiatives. He informed that NFR currently has a railway network of 7,362 Track Kilometres (TKM), with several new line projects under implementation to further expand connectivity in the North Eastern Region. Shri Shrivastava noted that the zone has achieved over 90% electrification, progressing steadily toward 100%. Prestigious trains such as the Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express and Naharlagun–New Delhi Express are now running entirely on electric traction.
He further mentioned that double-line work has been completed on key sections including New Bongaigaon–Agthori, New Bongaigaon–Azara, and Guwahati–Lumding, while doubling up to New Tinsukia has been sanctioned. Additionally, the construction of a new bridge over the Brahmaputra near the existing Saraighat Bridge and a third line between Kamakhya and Guwahati have been approved.
Emphasizing the geographical challenges, the General Manager noted that NFR operates one of the most complex railway networks in India, traversing difficult hilly terrains with the highest number of tunnels, bridges, and elephant corridors. He proudly stated that Aizawl, the capital of Mizoram, has been connected to the railway network for the first time, and freight operations have begun from Molvom in Nagaland. He also highlighted NFR’s adoption of modern AI-based technologies to enhance infrastructure safety, passenger comfort, and wildlife protection.
The General Manager added that station upgradation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is underway at 92 stations across NFR, including 60 in the Northeast. Notably, Haibargaon Station in Assam has become the first Amrit Station in the region, inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.
During the interactive session, the MPs offered valuable suggestions regarding the expansion of railway connectivity, modernization of stations, and preservation of heritage assets. They expressed their appreciation to NFR for organizing the meeting. The General Manager thanked the MPs for their inputs and assured that all feasible suggestions would be duly implemented to strengthen railway services in the Northeast.
