NFR GM Inspects Guwahati Railway Station, Reviews Festive Preparedness
Guwahati, 22nd October: The General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, inspected Guwahati Railway Station to review the preparedness and passenger amenities in view of the anticipated rise in passenger footfall during the ongoing festive season. The station, one of the busiest in the region, handles around 48,970 passengers daily, with more than 200 trains starting, terminating, or passing through it each day, while the peak season footfall rises to nearly 65,000 passengers daily.
According to an official statement given by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, during the inspection, the GM reviewed various crowd management and safety measures undertaken at the station. He also reviewed the holding areas outside the stations for managing surge in passenger footfall, with arrangement for passenger information system, drinking water, toilets, fans etc. The GM also addressed the media during his visit, informing about the various initiatives adopted by NFR and emphasized the need for continued vigilance and teamwork to ensure safe, efficient and comfortable travel for passengers throughout the festive season.
To enhance passenger convenience, several measures such as automatic ticket vending machines, real-time monitoring of passenger density through control rooms integrated with surveillance feeds, and a robust CCTV network have been implemented. Additional RPF and GRP personnel, along with Commercial staff, have been deployed in shifts to ensure security and smooth passenger movement. Queue management systems using barricades and rope lines have been introduced at ticket counters, entry gates, and escalator areas to handle heavy crowds effectively. RPF units are also utilizing drones and Segway scooters for improved surveillance, while war rooms at divisional offices and the NFR headquarters are operational round-the-clock for continuous crowd monitoring.
To meet the heightened travel demand during the festive period, Northeast Frontier Railway has introduced a total of 620 trips of special trains, ensuring additional accommodation and convenience for passengers. This initiative will significantly boost connectivity to major cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Kolkata, providing safe, efficient, and comfortable travel for all.
