Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Reviews Progress of Sivok–Rangpo Railway Line Project
Guwahati, 13th October, 2025: The Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Om Prakash Mathur, carried out a detailed inspection of the ongoing Sivok–Rangpo Railway Line Project at Khanikhola, Rangpo, under Pakyong district to assess the current progress of this strategically significant infrastructure initiative. He was accompanied by Hon’ble Lok Sabha MP, Dr. Indra Hang Subba, District Collector of Pakyong, Shri Rohan A, and senior officials from the district administration. During his visit, the Hon’ble Governor held discussions with senior officials of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) to review the project’s overall development and key milestones.
As stated by Shri Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, a detailed presentation was made by the General Manager (Construction), NFR, Shri Arun Kumar Chaudhary, and the Chairman & Managing Director of IRCON International Limited, Shri Hari Mohan Gupta. The presentation highlighted the project’s current status, noting that major components — including 14 tunnels and 23 bridges — are nearing completion. The officials also apprised the Hon’ble Governor of the challenges being faced in expediting certain segments of the work.
Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Governor emphasized that the Sivok–Rangpo Railway Line will be a game-changer for the State, significantly enhancing tourism, bolstering national security, and driving industrial growth and employment generation. He appreciated the dedication and commitment of NFR, IRCON, and all project personnel, urging them to continue upholding the highest standards of quality, safety, and timely delivery.
Describing the project as a key embodiment of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision for improved connectivity in the Northeast, the Governor noted that the 45-kilometre-long Sivok–Rangpo Railway Line — with 41.5 km in West Bengal and 3.5 km in Sikkim — will connect the Himalayan state to the national railway network for the very first time. Expressing full confidence in its timely completion, he reaffirmed his unwavering support to NFR and all executing agencies in realizing this vital infrastructure milestone.
