Hima Das Inaugurates English Department Wall Magazine at Pandu College
Guwahati, October 17: The English Department of Pandu College marked a memorable day with a vibrant display of creativity and inspiration as Assam’s celebrated sprinter Hima Das graced the college campus to inaugurate the department’s Wall Magazine titled “Beyond the Curtains: British Drama through the Ages.”
The Wall Magazine, an initiative by the students of the English Department, is a creative attempt to present a diverse range of reflections on several plays from the Modern and Postmodern eras. The project was the culmination of three weeks of dedicated teamwork involving extensive research, writing, illustration, and design. Each section of the magazine embodies a blend of academic insight and artistic imagination, showcasing the students’ deep understanding of literature as well as their flair for visual creativity.
The editorial team was led by Puja Dey (Editor), with contributors Jayshree Roy, Kundan Mahato, Hrishita Chakraborty, Priyam Dasgupta, Nishita Debnath, Juana Rahman, Bhargav Pratim Mazumdar, Meher Naaz Begum, Sanchari Paul, Dixita Das, Sonia George, Gigyasha Bhagwati, Dinata Laiphrakpam, Sneha Das, Bhagyashree Kumari, Silpita Sarma, Pratiksha Das, Jeeya Biswas, Janbee Kashyap, Arpita Sharma, Bibek Kumar, Ashmita Paul, Nishant Chetry and Jyotirmoy Kar. Their collective effort brought the magazine to life as a unique exploration of British drama “beyond the curtains” of time and tradition.
During the inauguration, Hima Das commended the students for their creativity and urged them to pursue their hobbies and passions alongside academics. Adding a special moment to the event, she invited her coach—an alumnus of Pandu College—to share his inspiring journey, motivating the young audience to chase their dreams with dedication and resilience.
Following the inauguration, Hima Das attended the event “Tracks to Triumph: Exploring Careers in Sports,” organized jointly by the Sports Club and the Pre-Examination Counselling Cell of Pandu College. She interacted candidly with students, speaking about her challenges, international experiences, and her simple love for rice, leaving the audience both informed and inspired.
The presence and encouragement of Dr. Sanchay Jyoti Bora (Principal), Dr. Chandana Sinha Roy (Vice Principal), Dr. Sanjib Kumar Barman (Head of the Department), Dr. Bhubaneswar Deka, Dr. Mridul Das, Dr. Anup Kumar Das, Mrs. Pallabi Konwar, and Ms. Ashmita Chakraborty added to the day’s success.
The event concluded with an atmosphere of enthusiasm and motivation, inspiring students to strive for excellence in both academic and personal pursuits.
