Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates Lakhimpur Nursing College and Lays Foundation for Super Speciality Hospital on Sardar Patel’s 150th Birth Anniversary
Lakhimpur, 31st October : On the auspicious occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the Lakhimpur Nursing College under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation and performed Bhoomipujan (ground worship) for a new Super Speciality Hospital in Lakhimpur. The event marked a significant step toward strengthening the state’s healthcare and medical education infrastructure.
Speaking on the occasion, the Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the establishment of Lakhimpur Nursing College is a milestone achievement and a testament to the state government’s commitment to providing quality medical education and healthcare services in every corner of Assam. The institution is expected to play a vital role in nurturing skilled healthcare professionals and addressing the growing demand for qualified nurses in the state.
Dr. Sarma further announced that B.Sc Nursing Colleges will be established in all 17 Cancer Care Hospitals across Assam under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation, ensuring that every major medical centre in the state contributes to both treatment and education.
Additionally, a new Nursing College will come up at Lakhimpur Medical College, offering both B.Sc and M.Sc Nursing courses. The Chief Minister also revealed plans to introduce six new departments at Lakhimpur Medical College — Neurology, Neurosurgery, Cardiology, Cardio Surgery, Nephrology, and ICU facilities. The college will also include paying cabins, providing advanced medical care to patients from across the region.
To further expand healthcare accessibility, Dr. Sarma announced that a 200-bed Civil Hospital will be constructed at Dhakuakhana, and a 100-bed District Hospital is being built at Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district. These projects aim to enhance healthcare infrastructure and ensure quality medical services reach even the most remote areas of the district.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that these initiatives would transform Lakhimpur into a major medical and educational hub in Upper Assam. The government’s vision, he emphasized, is to create a robust and inclusive healthcare network where every citizen of Assam can access advanced medical facilities without having to travel long distances.
This landmark initiative, launched on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, truly embodies the spirit of national unity and collective progress — strengthening both the health and heart of Assam.
