Vibrant Preparations Underway for Durga Puja 2025 in Haflong: Assam's Hill Town Gears Up for Divine Festivities
Haflong, Sept 27: Haflong is buzzing with anticipation for Durga Puja 2025. The annual celebration of Goddess Durga's triumph over evil, set to unfold from September 28 to October 2, is transforming this serene hill station into a canvas of devotion, art, and community spirit. With Mahalaya observances already underway since September 21, local committees are racing against time to erect pandals, sculpt idols, and weave traditions that blend Assam's indigenous flavors with Bengali rituals.
In Haflong, home to a vibrant mix of Dimasa, Bengali, and other communities, Durga Puja has evolved into a unifying festival that bridges cultural divides. Over a dozen mandaps (temporary pandals) are sprouting across key spots like Herimdi Mandir in Surat Nagar, Junglee Kalibari, Veterinary Campus, and Shivraiko Mandir in the Bodo Haflong area.
Local authorities are leaving no stone unturned for smooth conduct. The Dima Hasao Police has announced traffic regulations for Haflong town, designating one-way routes around major pandals and deploying additional personnel to manage crowds during evening aartis and processions.
As Shashthi dawns on September 28 with the ceremonial unveiling of idols (pran pratishtha), Haflong's faithful are invoking blessings for prosperity and unity. Amid the autumnal glow of the Jatinga Valley, this Puja reaffirms the town's resilient spirit – a testament to how a hill enclave in Assam's northeast keeps the flame of Sharadiya alive, one clay idol at a time. Devotees are urged to follow guidelines for a safe, joyous festivity
