Haflong, Sept, 25: The Dima Hasao District Health Society under the aegis of Seva Saptah and Ni-Kshay Mitra initiative of the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP), Assam, organized a programme at the Cultural Institute Hall, Haflong today. Chief Guest of the programme North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council CEM Debolal Gorlosa, local Member of Parliament Amarsing Tisso, Chairman of NCHAC Mohet Hojai along with other Executive Members, MACs and dignitaries, were present.
Distribution of food baskets to beneficiaries were done to the extending support to TB patients. Dima Hasao district presently has 103 Ni-Kshay Mitras extending nutrition support to TB patients. Ni-Kshay Mitra is a scheme through which support is extended to the community and People with TB (PwTB) to ensure, psychosocial care, nutritional support, treatment adherence, stigma reduction, and early detection.
Today’s programme was conducted as part of “Sewa Saptah" Programs which is a Nationwide "Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan". The Health Department, Govt. of Assam, in alignment with the nationwide campaign "Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan" launched by the Prime Minister on September 17, 2025, conducting three key programs as part of "Sewa Saptah".
The programmes today included - Nikshay Mitra Distribution Event, Voluntary Blood Donation Drive, Emphasizing community participation in health initiatives. Specialist Screening Camp for women and children, focusing on health and nutrition of women, adolescent girls, and children.
CEM Debolal Gorlosa in his speech encouraged all present that prevention is better than cure and therefore every person should take good care of health. He said that families should adopt healthy lifestyles, ensure early detection of health issues, and improve access to essential health services so that the early mortality death can be prevented. He said, “ So many women lose their husbands and children lose their father due to health ignorance and fatal diseases, therefore in order to empower women we must first spread awareness so that death can be prevented.”
Local MP Amarsing Tisso also said that the hill district of Dima Hasao is a healthy place with fresh and natural resources. The organic food grown here are one of the best that one can have for a healthy life. He added that, “The fight against TB is a collective responsibility. With community participation and people’s cooperation, we will achieve the goal of a TB-free nation”. He also informed that with the help of their government very soon Dima Hasao will have 30 bedded Ayush Hospital for better health accessibility.
Appreciating commendable efforts of the medical team EM Samuel Changsan in his speech urged individuals, NGOs, corporate houses, self-help groups, and religious organizations to come forward and adopt TB patients as Nikshay Mitras. This initiative aligns with the vision of a Healthy, Empowered, and Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The programme saw certificates handed over to the Ni-kshay Mitras, TB champions who overcame the disease through dedicated efforts. Officials from other departments, Ashas, NGOs also attended the programme.
