Candlelight march in Haflong mourning Assam’s heartthrob Zubeen Garg
Haflong, Sept 21: Haflong town on Saturday evening witnessed an outpouring of grief as hundreds of residents gathered to mourn the untimely demise of Assam’s beloved singer Zubeen Garg. Holding candles and walking through the main streets, the people of the hill town paid homage to the iconic artist who was popularly hailed as the heartthrob of Assam.
The procession, marked by silence and sorrow, reflected the collective sense of loss felt across communities. Participants from different walks of life joined hands in the march, underscoring the deep connection Zubeen’s music had woven among generations.
At the end of the march, residents assembled in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office where floral tributes were offered, and prayers were held in memory of the late singer.
Many participants expressed that Zubeen’s songs were not just music but carried emotions, culture, and identity for the people of Assam. “He was more than a singer; he was our voice,” said one mourner during the tribute.
