Haflong, August 22: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dima Hasao observed Parthenium Awareness Week from August 16 to 22, 2026, with the aim of educating farmers and the general public about the harmful effects of the invasive weed Parthenium and promoting its effective management.
As part of the week-long campaign, scientists of KVK organised awareness programmes, farmer training sessions, field demonstrations and Parthenium eradication drives at various locations across the district. Participants were sensitised about the adverse impacts of Parthenium on agriculture, livestock, biodiversity and human health. Practical guidance was also provided on identifying the weed, its safe removal and sustainable management practices.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Shankar Gogoi, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), with active involvement of the KVK scientific team.
The initiative received support from ICAR-ATARI Zone-VI, Guwahati, and was organised in association with Keshav Smarak Nyas, Haflong.
