One-Km Elevated Corridor Eases Traffic Gridlock on Jatinga–Harangajao Stretch

 Haflong, August 29: The opening of nearly one kilometre of two-lane elevated road at Dalaichunga on August 24 has brought significant relief to traffic congestion along the Haflong–Silchar stretch of National Highway 27, particularly on the 25-km Jatinga–Harangajao section of the Silchar–Saurashtra East-West Corridor.

The newly opened stretch has eased one of the major bottlenecks on the highway, providing considerable relief to commuters travelling daily between Haflong and Silchar. The improvement has also brought renewed optimism among passengers and transport operators who have been facing prolonged traffic disruptions in the area.

Dima Hasao District Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hyalinge welcomed the opening of the elevated corridor, saying that the new road section had helped reduce the congestion that had persisted for a considerable period.

However, the opening of the elevated corridor has also raised concerns over road safety. Local residents have reported that some vehicles are travelling at excessive speeds on the newly opened section, while adequate traffic-control measures are yet to be put in place.

The absence of sufficient road signage and other traffic-management arrangements has added to concerns, with residents apprehensive that uncontrolled vehicle speeds could increase the risk of accidents.

The District Commissioner has urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly while driving on the newly opened stretch. Drivers have been advised to strictly adhere to the prescribed speed limits and adjust their speed according to road and traffic conditions.

Authorities are hopeful that the remaining portions of the elevated corridor will be made operational at the earliest. Once completed, the project is expected to further ease traffic congestion along the Jatinga–Harangajao stretch and improve the overall connectivity between Haflong and Silchar.
