First Gauhati University Conclave brings youth, education and technology into focus

 

Guwahati, August 28, 2026: The first Gauhati University Conclave brought together students, academics and public representatives for discussions on youth empowerment, education, entrepreneurship, leadership and emerging technologies. Organised by the Post Graduate Students’ Union, the conclave sought to provide students a platform to engage with contemporary issues while developing leadership, self-development and entrepreneurial skills.

Addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest, Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu emphasised the need for transformation in education and a greater focus on the role of young people in shaping society. Drawing on the teachings of the Art of Living, he spoke about the importance of self-awareness, recognising one’s potential and cultivating a mindset of continuous learning.

“Education should go beyond textbook knowledge and should encourage individuals to grow through life experiences, self-reflection and continuous learning,” Dr. Pegu said.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, who inaugurated the conclave, highlighted self-development as an important strength for today’s youth. He stressed the importance of knowledge, skills and self-confidence in enabling young people to become capable individuals and contribute meaningfully to society.

Pradyut Bordoloi, MLA, Dispur constituency, who attended the programme as Guest of Honour, called upon young people to equip themselves with relevant skills and capabilities to navigate the rapidly changing era of Artificial Intelligence.

The conclave featured discussions on “Empowering Youths of Assam for a Developed Assam, Towards Viksit Bharat” and “Regionalism, Nationalism and Role of Youth.” Eminent speakers shared their perspectives on youth aspirations, nation-building, regional identity and the opportunities and challenges emerging from rapid technological change.

The inaugural session was moderated by Dr. Hirkajyoti Sarma, Assistant Registrar. Registrar Prof. Utpal Sarma, Secretary of Classes Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, faculty members and students were also present.

Post Graduate Students’ Union President Gunjan Deka delivered the welcome address and represented the student body in the inaugural programme.
