Guwahati, June 21, 2026: Gauhati University observed the International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21st June 2026 with great enthusiasm and participation from students, teachers, officers, staff members, and yoga enthusiasts.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University. In his inaugural address, he highlighted the importance of yoga in promoting physical health, mental well-being, and harmony in everyday life.
Dr. Ranjan Kr. Kakati, Secretary, University Classes, Gauhati University, welcomed the guests and participants and emphasized the significance of observing the International Day of Yoga as a means of encouraging a healthy and disciplined lifestyle among the younger generation.
Social worker Dr. Gargi Saikia was also present on the occasion and appreciated the initiative taken by the university in spreading awareness about yoga and holistic wellness.
Yoga trainer Shri Pankaj Medhi and Tanmoyee Bhuyan conducted and demonstrated various yoga practices and breathing exercises, actively engaging all the participants in the session.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks offered by Dr. Kuldeep Patgiri, Deputy Director, Students' Welfare who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and organizers for making the event successful.
The event reflected Gauhati University’s continued commitment towards promoting health, wellness, and the spirit of collective well-being through yoga.
