Guwahati, June 8: Assam’s Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged lemon, popularly known as Kaji Nemu, has reached the markets of Dubai, marking a significant achievement for the state’s agricultural sector. The development highlights the growing global recognition of Assam’s quality agricultural produce and the efforts of local farmers. APEDA (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) has played a key role in facilitating the export and expanding international market access for farmers.
Assam Chief Minister welcomed the export initiative, stating that it represents an important milestone in promoting the state’s products on the global stage. The export is expected to create new opportunities for farmers, enhance their income, and strengthen Assam’s presence in international markets.
According to officials, the successful shipment demonstrates the high quality of Assam’s agricultural produce and reflects the increasing demand for products from Northeast India in global markets. The initiative is also expected to encourage more farmers to adopt export-oriented cultivation and improve production standards.
