Guwahati, 23 May: The litchi trade has witnessed a significant boom in various parts of Assam, especially in Goalpara, where markets are bustling with heavy trading activities following the arrival of fresh seasonal produce. Traders from districts including Bongaigaon, Dhubri, Barpeta and Kamrup are thronging Goalpara’s wholesale markets to purchase litchis in bulk quantities.
The markets have remained crowded since early morning as local vendors, buyers and transporters stay busy handling the growing demand for the popular summer fruit. Farmers are also receiving encouraging prices due to strong consumer demand across Lower Assam.
Every day, trucks and small commercial vehicles loaded with fresh litchis are being dispatched to different districts, reflecting the rising scale of the trade. Traders have expressed optimism over excellent business prospects this season, citing quality production and increasing market demand as key reasons behind the booming litchi trade in the state.
