Maibang, May 20: An awareness programme on eco-living followed by a plantation drive was held today at Maibang HS School under the banner “Green School and Clean School,” organised by the Dima Hasao Press Club.
The event aimed to strengthen environmental awareness among students and the local community and to promote sustainable practices in schools and was attended by the Chairman, DHAC, Mohet Hojai as chief guest,DIPRO, Smt Purabi Phonglo, Principal, Maibang HS, Senior journalist and prominent citizens of Maibang as distinguished guests.
The programme brought together students, teachers, Press Club members, volunteers, and local residents for a morning of talks, demonstrations, and tree planting. Resource persons outlined simple eco-friendly habits—waste segregation, water conservation, and plastic reduction—and emphasised the role schools play in shaping environmentally conscious citizens.
Following the awareness session, participants took part in a coordinated plantation drive within the school compound and nearby public spaces. A variety of native saplings were planted to enhance green cover and provide long-term benefits such as shade, soil conservation, and biodiversity support.
Organisers expressed gratitude to the students and volunteers for their enthusiastic participation and highlighted the importance of sustaining such efforts throughout the year. “Small, consistent actions by schools and communities can create a healthier environment for future generations,” a Press Club representative said.
The initiative received heartfelt appreciation from attendees for reinforcing shared responsibility toward nature and for fostering community involvement in environmental protection. The Dima Hasao Press Club said it will continue similar programmes across the district to encourage wider adoption of green and clean practices in educational institutions.
