NFR Strengthens Cargo Operations and Customer Services


 Guwahati, 21st April, 2026:

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) undertook a series of proactive initiatives aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction and increasing freight revenue during the month of March 2026. These measures focus on strengthening logistics efficiency, ensuring smooth cargo movement and supporting the growth of regional agricultural and industrial supply chains.

As part of these initiatives, the Gati Shakti Multi-modal Cargo Terminal of M/s Dalmia Cement (NorthEast) Ltd. at Habaipur station under Lumding Division has been operationalized for handling inward traffic w.e.f. 27th March 2026. Additionally, as per the revised Freight Rates Circular, Baihata GCT under Rangiya Division has been permitted to handle outward traffic for a period of 90 days from 9th March 2026. These strategic measures are set to significantly strengthen logistics capability and efficiently meet the growing freight demands of the region.


Under its Business Development Unit initiative, NFR has recorded commendable freight loading across its divisions. A total of 4.5 rakes (189 wagons) of potato were successfully loaded from Dhupguri Railway Station under Alipurduar Division to multiple destinations, generating freight revenue of Rs. 0.76 crore. Furthermore, 6 rakes (252 wagons) of maize were loaded from Purnea, Jalalgarh and Katihar Jn. under Katihar Division to Bangladesh, earning revenue of Rs. 0.55 crore.

 


Substantial freight movement has also been achieved under Lumding Division. A total of 2741 wagons of stone chips were transported from various originating points to multiple destinations. In addition, 2867 wagons of cement were handled, contributing freight revenue of Rs. 11.52 crore. Movement of 441 wagons of POL generated revenue of Rs. 3.88 crore, while 107 wagons of bamboo/chips traffic were also handled, further strengthening overall freight performance.

 

Northeast Frontier Railway continues to focus on improving its freight services and customer interface while contributing significantly to the logistics and supply chain ecosystem of the region. Through sustained initiatives and technology-driven solutions, NFR aims to ensure faster, safer and more efficient transportation for its customers.
