NFR Speeds Up Running of 35 Trains During FY 2025-26 Giving a Major Boost to Train Operations

Guwahati, 27th March, 2026:

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken a significant initiative to enhance operational efficiency and passenger convenience by increasing the speeds of 35 trains across its network during the FY 2025-26. This concerted effort has resulted in a cumulative saving of 675 minutes in travel time, with an average reduction of approximately 19.29 minutes per train. The speed augmentation covers a mix of daily, weekly and bi-weekly train services connecting important destinations, thereby ensuring widespread benefits across different categories of passengers.

Among the major improvements, prominent trains such as New Jalpaiguri-Bongaigaon Express, Howrah-Guwahati Saraighat Express, Dibrugarh-Deoghar Express alongwith several others have witnessed substantial time savings, with reductions of time upto 60 minutes, 30 minutes and 90 minutes respectively. Several other routes facing congestions during running of intercity, mail/express and passenger oriented trains have also been optimized through better sectional speeds, improved scheduling and infrastructure upgrades. These enhancements reflect NFR’s continuous commitment towards modernizing train operations and maximizing network efficiency.

The increase speeds in train operations brings multiple advantages for the Railways and its passengers. For passengers, reduced travel time leads into greater convenience, improved journey experience and better connectivity. Faster services also enhance reliability and punctuality, making rail transport a more attractive option compared to other modes. Meanwhile for the Railways, optimized speeds lead to better utilization of rolling stock and track capacity, improved turnaround time of trains and overall operational efficiency. Additionally, time savings contribute to energy efficiency and cost optimization, while also enabling the possibility of introducing additional services within the same infrastructure.

This initiative is part of NFR’s broader vision to provide faster, safer and more efficient rail services to the people of the region. Continuous efforts are being made to upgrade infrastructure, streamline operations and adopt technological advancements to further enhance train performance. NFR always remains committed towards delivering improved services and ensuring a superior travel experience for its passengers.
