Guwahati, 17th October: A state-of-the-art KAVACH Lab Model was inaugurated today by Shri Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), at the Signal & Telecom Specialized Training Centre (STC) in Pandu. The commissioning of this advanced facility marks a major milestone in Indian Railways’ ongoing mission to enhance the safety, intelligence, and reliability of train operations across the network.
According to an official statement given by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR, KAVACH—adopted as the National Automatic Train Protection (ATP) System) on 4th July 2020—is an indigenously developed safety technology that aligns with the Atma Nirbhar Bharat vision. The system is engineered to prevent train collisions, ensure strict adherence to signal aspects, and automatically regulate train speed to avoid potential accidents. Representing the spirit of technological self-reliance, KAVACH stands as a cornerstone of Indian Railways’ Zero Accident Mission, reaffirming the organization’s unwavering commitment to passenger safety.
The newly commissioned KAVACH Lab Model at STC/Pandu is equipped with all major KAVACH subsystems, including Station KAVACH, Loco KAVACH, Radio Frequency Communication modules, GSM and GPS antennas, Loco Pilot Driver Machine Interface, Station Master Operation-cum-Indication Panel, and a Simulation Panel. The lab is designed to simulate real-world train movements between stations, offering a highly practical, hands-on learning environment for Signal & Telecom personnel, Loco Pilots, Assistant Loco Pilots, and other key staff involved in KAVACH’s implementation, operation, and maintenance.
By replicating operational conditions, the facility enables trainees to gain a deeper understanding of system functionalities, fault diagnostics, and the intricate coordination required among various KAVACH components. This immersive approach is expected to significantly enhance the technical proficiency and preparedness of railway personnel, ensuring safer, smarter, and more efficient train operations throughout the network.
The commissioning of this advanced training facility underscores Indian Railways’ continued emphasis on innovation, safety, and skill development, paving the way for a new era of technological excellence and operational reliability in the nation’s rail infrastructure.
