Guwahati, 22nd September: To manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the upcoming Puja, Diwali and Chhath festivals, Northeast Frontier Railway has announced the introduction of several Festival Special Trains across multiple routes. These services are aimed at offering additional travel convenience during the busy festive period.
According to an official statement given by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, the Festival Specials will link key destinations such as Katihar, Sonpur, Dauram Madhepura, Manihari, Agartala, Dharmanagar, New Tinsukia, SMVT Bengaluru, Amritsar, New Jalpaiguri, Gomti Nagar, Kishanganj, Narkatiaganj, Patna, Dibrugarh, Gorakhpur, Silchar, Naharlagun, Kolkata and Guwahati, among others. Depending on the route, these trains will run on daily, weekly and tri-weekly basis between September and December 2025, as per notified schedules.
In addition, NFR will also support passenger movement by facilitating operation of trains belonging to other Zonal Railways that connect with the NFR region. These include important services such as Mumbai–Katihar, Bengaluru–Narangi, Charlapalli–Naharlagun, Shalimar–Rangapara North, Agra Cantt–Jogbani, Kolkata–New Jalpaiguri, Howrah–Lumding, Anand Vihar–Jogbani and several others.
Altogether, 23 pairs of trains, totaling 46 services, will be operated during this festive season. The move is expected to provide comfortable travel facilities and ensure smooth mobility of passengers. Travellers are advised to check detailed train schedules, stoppages and coach composition from official sources before planning their journey.
