First-Ever Cement Rake Reaches Molvom: NFR Marks New Era of Connectivity in Nagaland
Guwahati, 25th September, 2025: Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) achieved a remarkable milestone with the successful unloading of the first-ever rake of cement at Molvom Railway Station in Nagaland.
According to an official statement given by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, the rake, comprising 41 wagons loaded with cement from M/s My Home Industries Pvt. Ltd., Telangana, was unloaded at 18:45 hrs on 24th September, 2025 for M/s North East Infra Network. This development marks the beginning of rake operations at Molvom, strengthening rail connectivity and enhancing infrastructure in the region. NFR remains committed to upgrading freight services in the Northeast, supporting economic growth and sustainable logistics.
The rake carried 2,624 tonnes of cement over a distance of 2,500 km from Mellacheruvu in Telangana to Molvom in Nagaland, offering industries cost-effective, eco-friendly transport while contributing significantly to the state’s socio-economic development. The achievement is a step forward in making railways a reliable lifeline for trade in the Northeast.
The 82.50 km Dimapur–Kohima railway line, extending 2.75 km in Assam and 79.75 km in Nagaland, runs from Dhansiri in Assam to Zubza near Kohima. It comprises eight stations—Dhansiri, Dhansiripar, Shokhuvi, Molvom, Pherima, Piphema, Menguzuma, and Zubza—along with 27 major bridges, 149 minor bridges, 5 Road Over Bridges, 15 Road Under Bridges, and 20 tunnels covering 31 km. The 16.5 km Dhansiri–Shokhuvi section was commissioned in October 2021, enabling passenger services from Shokhuvi to Naharlagun in Arunachal Pradesh and Mendipathar in Meghalaya. The recently completed 14.64 km Shokhuvi–Molvom section was commissioned in March 2025.
Indian Railways, hailed as the Lifeline of the Nation, continues to expand its network in the Northeast. The successful placement of this first rake at Molvom exemplifies NFR’s dedicated efforts to bring dependable rail services to remote areas while reducing carbon emissions, aligning with the vision to achieve Net Zero by 2030.
